Here’s a quick, easy and effective wedding decor tutorial: How to make your own Napkin Bunting. It works out a lot more economically than fabric bunting
and with the almost limitless designs of napkins available, it is easy to match your colour scheme. Not only is it reusable, it’s recyclable too.
You will need:
- Paper Napkins in your chosen pattern
- Scissors
- Glue
- Twine/Ribbon
First of all, fold your napkin in half so a crease is visible.
This bit is important - Position your napkin so that the folded edge is closest to you. Then fold a crease from the top of the centre crease to the bottom on the same side.
…here’s one I made earlier. Repeat for the other side.
Then cut along the two diagonal creases to make a triangle.
You will have two diamond shapes (because the napkin comes folded on itself). Repeat these steps until you have the desired amount of flags for your bunting.
Next, take the twine and tie a knot in one end.
Lay the flags out leaving about two inches apart, and lay the twine on the fold. Cut the twine at the other end and knot (it’s best to leave a bit of wiggle room).
Apply the glue to the portion of the twine that goes below the flag. Don’t put the glue directly onto the napkin as it can tear it.
Fold it back over and press.
Repeat for every flag and voila! Instant bunting (that cleverly matches your napkins)! Not just for weddings but for bridal showers, birthdays, Halloween Parties, Christmas…

Great idea Lisa well done
Very cute!
I love this idea. Was planning to make fabric bunting with red polka dot fabric that I have for Christmas but think I will do it with napkins instead as it will be quicker. Will also use it for parties in future. Such an easy way to decorate to a theme.
Love this and it is so cute! You can never go wrong with polka dots
Great idea!
