Wedding Detail Spy: Lavender Love DIY
Today’s Wedding Detail Spy is a US DIY affair with Irish and UK connections – an English bride and a groom from an Irish family. Bride Phoebe says, “We bring as much of our British world into our American lives as we can. My uncle, who now lives in Ireland, was unable to attend the wedding so he sent me the Irish flag. My husband’s family is Irish, so the photos with the flags were very fitting!”
Their lavender-coloured wedding is pure inspiration for DIY couple. The only vendors they hired were a DJ, day of coordinator and photographer. “My family got together and went shopping for the food, and we spent the days before the wedding cooking. My grandmother made different types of pate, and we went with a vintage look with cheese platters, grapes and french bread. There was smoked salmon, apple stuffed pork, rice salads and green salads. For the tables, I tied each of the napkins myself with varying shades of purple ribbon. A friend and I made the favors from paper from a craft store. Another friend and I made all of the bouquets and centerpieces. I even had DIY shoes!”
“The most emotional part of my day was when I pulled up to the church in the limo, and I saw my husband standing outside of the church waiting for his moment to go inside. He couldn’t see me yet so I could just stare at him, and I was so overwhelmed by how much I realized I loved him in that moment.”
The bride’s gorgeous dress was from Oleg Cassini. “I loved everything about it, from the ball gown cut to the beaded detail on the side. It fit me perfectly in every way and I have never felt so beautiful in my life. It’s true what they say, when you try that dress on, you just know!”
Last word goes to Phoebe: “I cannot pick a favorite thing from the day. I was so happy from the moment I woke up, to getting ready, to the last dance. Everything was just the way I wanted it to be and I was surrounded by so many people that love me, I couldn’t have asked for anything more.”
