“Hauntingly romantic yet majestically chic” is how today’s bride, Heather describes her wedding to Brendan. The couple tied the knot in the gothic surrounds of Bryn Athyn Cathedral in Pennsylvania. Brendan’s family are Irish, and Heather has Cuban roots, so the wedding was a meeting of heritages.
The Cathedral brought an ethereal feel, and the combination of astounding organ music, gothic architecture and a plethora of candles reinforced the medieval style. The Cathedral and its teachings hold a very special place in the couple’s hearts.
Inspired by the colours of jeweled-tone palettes, the wedding décor and flowers were designed around shades of teal, deep purple, royal blue, and magenta.
At the reception, each table had a unique centerpiece that was hand selected by the bride herself. She had searched high and low for the perfect vintage, yet rustic and dusty charming pieces at flea markets and other antique and boutique shops.
“We used Spanish-influenced iron candelabras, glass blown vases, timeworn books and hardwood boxes. Our amazing and fearless floral team, Offshoots! embraced my ideas and fostered in the design of my dream wedding.”
The Cairnwood Mansion, the reception venue allowed Heather – a self-confessed “non-traditional” bride to spread her wings. The layout of the mansion was such that guests were able to explore and discover, while enticing their taste buds with a ethnic catering by Feastivities Catering.
One room was dedicated to Brendan’s Irish heritage and another to Heather’s Cuban heritage, where guests feasted on traditional Cuban dishes and a special homemade “frijoles negros” recipe provided by the bride’s grandmother. Even the Hor d’oeuvres encompassed ethnic flare.
And it wasn’t just the bride who had creative flair! Brendan designed and hand-drew the emblems that appeared on the invitations and programs: “Brendan has always referred to me as his “Angel” and incorporated angel wings in his design as well as many other personal details. Our paper goods fancied a medieval romance that kept many guests in suspense for our wedding.” Many of them did not know what to expect from the couple, and even their closest friends and family referred to theirr style as “Heather & Brendan.”
“The best advice I would give our brides-to-be is this: Do not be afraid to make your wedding, “yours.” There are many outside influences from family members and friends, but it is so important to make your wedding a reflection of your style, grace and the love between you and your spouse. Take a deep breath and don’t forget to have fun!”
Heather and Brendan are one couple who weren’t afraid to let their creative juices flow when planning their stylish wedding, and it is for this reason that they definitely have The Quirk Factor!
