Volkswedding Camper Vans

UPDATE OCTOBER 2013:

Sue has been in touch to let us know about the new services Lazy Days now offer, including the Republic of Ireland’s only VW Beetle for hire ! I contacted Sue after a reader inquired if Lazy Days were still going… and by the sounds of it they’re going from strength to strength, here’s what she had to say:

“Yes we at Lazy Days are very much still in business, we have grown our Wedding Car offering from 1 to 3 vehicles this year 2013. All 9 of our vintage VW campers are also available for wedding hire in the low season. We are also adding a fourth Split Screen and a VW Beetle for the 2014 season!
Two updates on Lisa’s original post: We no longer offer a chauffeur driven service. All of our vehicles are available for self-drive hire only. The other major change is that we have secured insurance to rent a VW Beetle for self-drive hire. This will be southern Ireland’s first and only insured Beetle for wedding hire!

Last week’s Friday Poll was all about getting to the church on time… and in style. At the time of writing the second most popular choice was a somewhat unusual one – ‘Something quirky – a fleet of minis or a VW camper van’ had 26.67% of the vote! In celebration of all things off-beat I decided to do this post on unusual wedding transport and you can imagine my delight when I discovered Lazy Days camper van hire.

As a bride-to-be with quirky sensibilities I have been disappointed time and time again whilst searching for VW Beetles, Minis, and VW camper vans for hire. The former two don’t qualify for Public Service Vehicle licenses in Ireland and therefore cannot be rented as a taxi (which effectively wedding cars are). But VW camper vans are a whole different kettle of fish!

The company is run by husband-and-wife team Sue and Patrick. Their wedding car was Barry the campervan!

Lazy Days hire their self-drive  and chauffer-driven campers for all sorts of weddings and events. The self-drive option is perfect for those familiar with the vehicles; they might have owned or rented a VW before in Australia, or they may dream of owning one (Which, yes, is me). Sometimes people even hold on to the camper on self-drive and head off around Ireland on honeymoon – what a great idea for a honeymoon on a budget!

What a great idea and so practical too if you go with the poofy dress option and don’t want your gown all crushed

My husband arrived at the Registry office in an A-Team van, the colour scheme of the wedding was red and black though so it fitted in nicely and provided some Quirk Factor.

    Love the VW campers too!

  3. We attended a wedding a couple of years ago where the bride surprised the groom by arriving in a campervan. It was the coolest thing ever, so unusual. Must have a look and see if we have any pics…

  4. I love the campervans! How unusual :)

Definitely another thing on the list of lovely things to look at!

  5. Love it – what a fantastic idea to hold onto it for the honeymoon!
    So are you booking one??

    • I really would love to! Our bridal party is 10 people so we wouldn’t all fit in anything except the likes of a stretch limo, but that’s not really our style… watch this space! One thing we will not be doing is hanging on to it for the honeymoon as we’d be frozen camping out in November :)

    Hey Lease,

If you’re interested in a Beetle, a friend of ours who drives one had a stretch Beetle for her wedding car, in off-white, of course!

    • Thanks bear! I think I’ve seen this stretch Beetle on the Star Cars website! Was it a Northern wedding? The reason I ask is ’cause Star Cars is primarily a northern website.

  7. Wow it’s really an impressive idea to get married in the Camper Vans and unique one, your Camper Vans really looks gorgeous more than that as a couple you together looks beautiful…

Hi, I really wanted to have a VW campervan from the church to reception but it looks like we’re going to have 4 bridesmaids (have only asked 2 but want to have the other 2) and 3 groomsman.
Did you ever come up with an alternative for all your wedding party? i really want us all to travel together so we can have a little fun on the way down to the reception!

Our story is a bit of a long one – we booked a gorgeous vintage bus to take the lot of us but there was a fire at their depot a few months before the wedding and the bus was destroyed. When this happened we decided a limo would be our best option. It was great fun traveling in a group like that – I’d definitely recommend it! If you do decide to go for a vintage bus, make sure to take the distance between your ceremony and reception venues isn’t too far – they are beautiful and stylish but they come from a time that the pace of life was slower and their top speeds reflect this. Good luck with the hunt!

  9. CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF LAZYDAYS CAMPERVANS ARE STILL IN BUSINESS
