Short and Sweet

1950s style wedding dress

Thanks to the success of the TV series Mad Men, the sixties are back! And they’ve taken the fifties along with them for the craic. The short wedding dress is a trend that saw a revival last year and it’s showing no sign of easing off. There’s a recession on don’t ya know – can’t afford to use too much material!

Here are some of my faves:

1. ‘Platinum’ by Priscilla of Boston

Platinum by Priscilla of Boston

This dress is exquisite from front to back. Its lace-trimmed hem harks back to days of old and the diamante studded waistband brings it right up to date. $2500 – $3000 from Priscilla of Boston (forget what I just said about the recession!)

2. ‘Manhattan’ by Dolly Couture

Manhattan by Dolly Couture

Anyone who’s ever considered wearing a short wedding dress must surely have visited Dolly Couture’s funky website. The Manhattan oozes simplicity and elegance, for the bride who would prefer to wow with her shoes and her dress. $395 from Dolly Couture

3.Daphnie Retro-Inspired Tea Dress

Daphne Wedding Dress
This dress has a simple, yet very elegant style with pleated sash that ties flat at the back or can be tied into a prominent bow detail. This peach beauty is made to order $450+postage, Ellena Couture at Etsy.

  1. These are beautiful. I loved my short wedding dress – I’m clumsy enough as it is without having a dress to trip on coming up the aisle : )

  2. LOVE these dresses, brideandjoy! Give us anything retro and off the beaten path and we’re big fans. These dresses would definitely work well for our brides who opt for destination weddings – after all, who wants to walk on the sand in a long, dragging gown and carry grains with them into their wedding night? No thanks! ;)

Have a wonderful rest of your “Wedding Wednesday” – we look forward to chatting with you soon!

  3. I love short dresses much more than longer ones! So glamourous if done right!

  4. Oh my gosh! That last one just stole my heart. Talk about a dress you can wear again!
