Irish Wedding in Portugal

Today’s nugget of wedding inspiration comes all the way from Portugal. I love weddings abroad, and Portugal looks like an ideal place for a destination wedding from Ireland.

Hilary and Peter got married in September in front of 150 friends and family, most of whom had flown out from Ireland for the event. In true Irish style there was lots of laughter, tears, singing, dancing and, or course, the drinks were freely flowing!

The wedding and reception took place in a small town close to Ericeira, Portugal at the Paço d’Ilhas Guest House, the partially restored ruins of a 16th century palace and chapel. The entire event was outdoors, with the ceremony in amongst the walls of the ruins and the reception dinner-and-dancing in the gardens of the guest house. Hilary and Peter also used the services of a wedding co-ordinator (Melanie Reeg) which is practically essential when getting married abroad, especially in a country where English isn’t a commonly spoken language.
