Irish Asian American Fusion Wedding

Irish Chinese Wedding

What a great Irish turn of phrase we’re hearing more and more about these days, or should I say more and more about the lack of these days. This Cupertino wedding brings together three diverse cultures – Chinese, American and Irish.

These little steamers were filled with sweets as wedding favours.

Hands up if you recognise this motif – that’s right the Claddagh ring! Pride and joy of every Irish First Holy Communion-maker.

This I did not recognise, though: the Claddagh bell – to be rung whenever the couple have an argument to remind them of their wedding vows. That’s the grooms dad there, a real character. It was him who brought the pot too :)

I think it’s fascinating how traditions travel. Ask any Irish person what country kilts are from and they’d say Scotland. Ah sure we’re all Celts now aren’t we. This couple did a great job of bringing their respective cultures together.

  3. this wedding looks like it was a blast

  4. It was a very good wedding. The couples were able to bring up their cultures together during their wedding day. It is a good thing that they both understand and accept the culture of each other as newly-weds. Thanks for your post. I just learned something new about Irish wedding culture especially with the Claddagh bell.
