A few weeks ago I was chatting on a wedding forum about the topic of Engagement Sessions when some of the ladies started to mention BP sessions – knowing that it was unlikely they meant the controversial petroleum company, but without a clue what else it could mean, I had to ask for a translation.
Boudoir Photography is – like Engagement Sessions – a trend that is taking off at the moment. Today we’re joined by the lovely Clare from Core Photography who gives us the run-down. And there’s something very exciting coming up tomorrow on the topic too so make sure you check back…
What is Boudoir photography?
Stock answer: Boudoir is a French word meaning a woman’s dressing room.
Boudoir is also widely known as a style of photography. It is a sexy new trend that involves creating intimate and romantic images of yourself most commonly wearing lingerie.
What Boudoir photography offers is an artistic and tangible way that women can see for themselves that they are sensual and gorgeous. When a woman is confronted with her own image and she can see herself looking undeniably beautiful it can be a tremendous boost to her self-confidence and reawaken her sensuality. These pictures are taken by knowing professionals, who use lighting to highlight and flatter the very best of a woman’s beauty. Oftentimes, women posing for boudoir photography have had a make-up artist and hair stylist help them prepare for their pictures, which both enhances their beauty and is a fun, feminine pampering experience.
Who gets Boudoir Images done?
Anyone who wants beautiful images made for themselves or someone special.
The main objective of boudoir photography is to celebrate your womanhood and unique sensuality. A boudoir photography session is an intimate photography experience that unleashes your feminine beauty potential! Occasions such as Valentine’s Day, anniversaries, weight loss or other body changing celebrations are great reasons for having a Boudoir Shoot.
What should I bring?
It’s especially popular as a wedding day gift from a bride to her groom. Many brides give an album of these images to their fiance on the day of their wedding. While it may be easy for the groom to give his wife a fancy diamond ring or satin lingerie; it is a little difficult for the bride to choose the best gift for her husband. The bride has to carefully choose the gift which would truly make her groom remember her for the rest of their lives. You can give him socks and a watch anytime but give him you in all your sensual glory and you are onto a winner! How could he ever top your Boudoir Album!
Most studios provide all the props, boas, chaise lounge and different backgrounds and sets. Some have corsets and tights and shoes but we it’s probably a better idea for you to bring your own as you will have chosen outfits that you would be comfortable in.
Comfort is very important in a Boudoir Shoot!
Most women will go on a spending spree before the shoot to find outfits that will complement their body type.
Studios will have a closet full of jewelry or hats or boas and will add them to your shoot if they think it will enhance the end result.
A lot of women like to bring a shirt or jersey from their man’s wardrobe- sneaking it out of the house heightens your excitement and makes for a great surprise when he opens your album!
The most important thing – choose outfits that make you feel sexy. A good rule of thumb: Bring something white, something black, and something in a bright color so you can mix and match. Also bring along your bridal veil and lingerie! A corset will create sexy curves. Don’t forget shoes, jewelry, and that engagement ring.
